Ski Club

Ski Club runs 5v5 LCTF pick-up games, organised through the | The Cut | Discord rather than on a server you drop into.

It is run by slush, also known as s5h and FONDU.

Results are published at skiclub.duckdns.org, which carries:

  • Matches — a history of games, each with a full scoresheet
  • Leaderboards — separate tables for LCTF, duelling and Shazbux
  • TrueSkill — a page per player showing their rating over time
  • Recent LCTF games — the latest results on the front page, with damage share and predicted outcomes alongside each

Ski Club collects and keeps its own stats, independently of the tracking on TribalOutpost. The leaderboards and ratings here stand on their own rather than deriving from anywhere else.

Results feed TrueSkill ratings. TrueSkill is a Bayesian skill-rating system developed by Microsoft Research, designed for team games rather than one-on-one play: it tracks both an estimate of each player’s skill and how confident it is in that estimate, updating both after every match. That suits pick-up games, where sides are picked fresh at the start of each match and a player might only appear occasionally.

Both halves are on show in the leaderboard: μ is the skill estimate, σ how uncertain the system still is about it. A high μ with a high σ means a player has looked strong but hasn’t played enough games to be sure of yet.

It means teams can be balanced from ratings that reflect results, and it is also what drives the predicted outcomes shown against each game.

Start at skiclub.duckdns.org. The front page shows live status for the Ski Club servers — Slope 1 and the Duel server — so you can see whether anything is running before you launch the game.

From there:

Once you have played, you get a rating page of your own, tracking your μ and σ across games.

The 5v5 games themselves are organised in the | The Cut | Discord — join it here — so that is where to watch for a sign-up going up.
