Tribes 2 shipped in 2001 and its official servers are long gone, but the game is still played and the community that kept it alive is still around. These are the places worth knowing about — both for playing and for research when writing an article.

Before you copy anything

Everything linked here belongs to whoever wrote it. Forum posts and guides are their authors’ work, so please don’t paste text from these sites into an article without asking. Read them, then write what you know in your own words — facts about how the game plays aren’t anyone’s property, only the particular words used to describe them.

Where another author’s material does appear on a page, it is credited there, and they keep their copyright in it. If an author would rather their work were not here, say so and it will be removed.

The community project that brought Tribes 2 back after the official authentication servers shut down, replacing them so the game could keep running. Its forums are the most active Tribes 2 community still going, covering patches, server hosting, troubleshooting and general play.

Of particular interest to this wiki is A newbie’s guide, posted by WiiMote in January 2009 — a long introduction to the game covering armours, vehicles, weapons, packs, base assets, skiing and the game’s terminology, with a lengthy discussion thread underneath. It covers the ground of roughly a third of the articles missing from this wiki, which makes it a good place to jog your memory before writing one.

The thread also links to the original tribes2wiki.com — Kryand, who was the original wiki’s most prolific contributor, turns up there pointing newcomers toward it.

The Construct

Home of the Tribes 2 Construction Mod, a long-running community mod built around in-game building rather than combat, with its own forums and a collection of players’ creations.

The original wiki linked a Construction article that was never written. Anyone who knows this mod is well placed to finally write it.

Tribes2Maps

A database of Tribes 2 maps and map reviews, along with mapping tutorials and utilities. It ran from 2000 to 2009 and survives as a read-only archive mirror; map downloads themselves have moved to TribalOutpost.com.

It’s the natural reference for this wiki’s map coverage, which is thin. The original wiki linked four map articles it never got round to writing — Beggar’s Run, Damnation, Dangerous Crossing and Sun Dried — and its Category:Maps was nearly empty. Anyone wanting to fill those gaps will find the raw material here.

Its guide artwork replaced 13 of the images lost when the original wiki went down; its authors keep their copyright in it. See the image credits for the full mapping.
